Introduction to our Class

My name is Mr. McCormick and it gives me great pleasure to be the new teacher of the Year 4 Silverbacks’ class! I am new to Doha British School and can’t wait to get to know your children and help them thrive. Before joining here, I completed a year in the United Kingdom working in an Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ school which has given me a good grounding in what it means to get the best out of your child. I am really looking forward to making a meaningful contribution to your child’s education.

Our first topic this year will be ‘Extreme Earth’ and I know the children will love learning what Miss Neil, Mr Gillard and I have planned for them to do. This will be a Geography based topic which takes the children through different extreme weather that happens on the Earth - not that we see a lot of it in Doha!

All items of clothing need to be clearly labelled e.g. Jumpers/ P.E. Kits. Children must have a healthy ‘snack” or fruit which they can eat during the first morning break. They will also need to bring in their own healthy packed lunch to school with a refillable water bottle. Please ensure that packed lunches do not contain chocolate spreads such as Nutella or any nut products due to allergies.

School begins promptly at 7.00am and registration closes at 7.05am. Please can I stress the importance of bringing/ collecting your child from school so that there education can be maximised. If your child arrives later than 7:05 am, they will be marked late. Active learning begins as soon as they enter the classroom. If your child is late they may miss out on something vital. School finishes at 13:30 so children need to be picked up in the classroom by their parents or designated driver.

Children must have a hat for playtime outside. We operate a ‘no hat – no play’ policy. Children without a hat will be supervised during playtime within the classroom.

During the first few weeks I will arrange an opportunity to meet with me and discuss general information or questions on how we organise homework or anything else school related.
