The School Nurse is responsible for improving and protecting the health status of the school community. The major focus is the prevention of illness and disability, and the early detection and correction of health problems. Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for providing first aid care for the day to day health care needs of the children and staff of DBS. Participate with School staff in the development and delivery of total school health programs Serve as resource in all matters relating to medical and health issues. Serve as school liaison with parents/local medical facilities in regard to medical emergencies and matters. Advise Management and staff on health matters, particularly in regard to individual children health issues and needs. Prepare and submit various reports as required by the administrative staff. Perform additional duties as assigned. Provide basic healthcare for students and staff; Promote healthy living; Provide health assessments (obtaining a health and developmental history, screens and evaluates findings for deficits in vision, hearing, etc) for pupils; Provide training to teachers on healthcare issues and advise on school health policy; Develop and implement a health plan (provides ongoing health information to pupils and school personnel, recommends and helps to implement modifications of school programs to meet students’ health needs, etc); Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through preventive immunization programs, early detection and reporting of contagious diseases; Provide health advice to staff organizing school trips, in particular for residential and overseas visits; Maintain and update cumulative health records; Prepare the budget for school health supplies; Provide First Aid kits for each department. Required Skills Excellent communication skills Self awareness and emotional stability The ability to win the trust of children and to relate well to people of all ages and backgrounds a responsible attitude to work Knowledge of the health needs of children and young people The ability to stay calm in an emergency The ability t keep accurate records Good team working skills and the ability to work on your own initiative Qualifications An approved degree in Nursing is required An approved First Aid at Work Certificate would be an advantage Experience Minimum two years' professional experience as a qualified nurse is required Knowledge of the health needs of school children would be an advantage Knowledge and understanding of sports injuries would be an advantage
