Year 7 Teacher
B. Comm, PGCE
Having completed my B.Comm, I received my PGCE and returned to Ireland where I taught in two growing multi-denominational schools.
After a number of years, I wanted to further develop my skills in meeting the needs of all children and completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Special Education. This area sparked further interest where I undertook a Masters in Education along with a Postgraduate Certificate in The Principles of Art Therapy.
Here in Doha British School, I am a Reception teacher, where I enjoy applying my skills to create a fun, dynamic and happy learning environment to engage my students.
I have taught in Scotland for 5 years and Qatar for 3 years, in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
My name is Claire Ross and I am from Ireland.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art and a Post Graduate Diploma in Primary Education.
I am one of two teachers in Year One and I look forward to yet another year teaching in such a diverse and vibrant school that is DBS Wakra.

I have taught for 6 years in the UK and am beginning my 4th year of teaching in Qatar. The majority of my teaching experience is in Key Stage 1 and I am currently the Key Stage 1 Leader here at DBS Wakra. As well as my role, I also teach Year 2B Chihuahua class. I feel proud to be part of such a fantastic school and it has been amazing to see the progress the children have made in Key Stage 1 over the past 2 years.
I am now into my sixth year of teaching and this is my third at DBS Wakra. I have taught in a variety of schools in the UK from Outer London to Hampshire. I have experienced teaching in all of the years in KS2 as well as Year 1. This year I am broadening my experience as a teacher by moving to Year 2. I am Head of Science which has continued to grow over the last two years. Last year saw the launch of Science week which was a huge success and all the children thoroughly enjoyed their activities. I am looking forward to what will happen in Science this year. It is successes like these that drive me as a person, from the little achievements of each day, to the whole progress each child makes each year.
BA Hons Primary and Secondary teaching with Modern Languages
I am now into my sixth year of teaching, this is my first year at DBS Wakra. I have experience across KS1, KS2 and Secondary. Before coming to Qatar I was also A SENCo which has given me a great insight to developing the whole child and ensuring all needs are catered for. I endeavor to pass on my love for learning. This year I will be in year 3. I look forward to a great year ahead with lots of learning and new challenges, ensuring a smooth transition into KS2.
This is my 5th year of teaching and currently my 3nd year in DBS Wakra. I trained as a teacher at Liverpool Hope University in the UK and taught in England for a year. I then moved home to Ireland to teach for two more years before moving to Qatar. I enjoy having a hands on and active approach to teaching. Also, I believe it is extremely important to be flexible and use different approaches and strategies to suit individual children’s needs.
I am currently in my fifth year of teaching and my third year at DBS Wakra. I trained as a teacher at Winchester University in Hampshire in the UK. I then taught in Portsmouth for two years before making the decision to move to Qatar. I have experience teaching in all year groups in Key Stage 1 and 2 and I am currently teaching in Year 4 with a determined group of children. Sports are a very important part of my life and I enjoy an array of different sports which I am looking forward to sharing with the children.
I understand that every child has a different learning style and therefore realise the importance of a variety of teaching techniques to enable them to reach their full potential.
I am currently in my second year of teaching Year 5 at DBS Wakra. Before working at DBS, I qualified with a B.Ed Primary Honours Degree in Scotland where I completed my first year of teaching. I have had the opportunity to teach all year groups however the majority of my experience is in upper KS2. I believe that every child is an individual and understand that children enjoy learning in different ways therefore I strive to incorporate a variety of teaching strategies in every lesson to ensure that each child is given the chance to reach their full potential.
